Rejoice! We will be screening a free Irish-language documentary (with English subtitles) next Friday, Sept 6th at our classroom location in Friendship Heights. Event will run from 7 – 8:30pm. Fáilte roimh chách / All adults welcome, so feel free to bring a friend! Refreshments will be provided.

Love/Hate box setThe title of the documentary will remain a mystery until screening, but rest assured this is an intriguing (and controversial) piece which will stir up some ‘comhrá’ afterwards! As an added bonus, everyone who attends will be entered into a free raffle to win a boxset of Series 1-3 of the sensational Irish crime drama, Love/Hate!

Beginner Intensive on July 27th:
This beginner course is great for people interested in the Irish language, but who don’t have the time to commute to Friendship Heights for 8 weeks in the autumn. Ronan runs a high energy course that will leave you speaking all the basics by the time you go home. Intermediate Intensive on July 28th:
Didn’t get a chance to travel to the Gaelteacht this summer? Here is your chance for a one day Irish language immersion. Fueled with new ideas and resources from Ireland, Ronan will lead a fun day course that will get you talking, talking and talking more! Curious what all the fuss is about? Would you like to speak ‘as Gaeilge’ and join the Irish language community here in Washington DC?!

The Introductory Course is an enjoyable yet challenging program in conversational Irish, held in our classrooms in Friendship Heights on Thursday evenings. Over the past years our 6-week Introductory Course has introduced well over 200 students in the area to the joys of speaking Irish, and you too can join in the fun!

By the end of this course, students will be able to introduce themselves and talk about their family life, where they live, occupation, likes/dislikes, hobbies and numbers, as well as tell the time, days of the week and more.

Course dates: Thursday May 23, 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27.

RTE visits Let’s Learn Irish!

RTE’s ‘Drivetime’ makes a stop at our DC Classes! 

As part of a report into the link between Irish-Americans and their ancestors, RTE Radio visited with Learn Irish With Me last Thursday evening! Washington DC correspondent Carole Coleman interviewed Múinteoir Elaine and students from the Gramadach 101 class, and the piece was broadcast on Monday, March 18th – ‘comhghairdeas’ to everyone featured on Ireland’s most-listened-to evening show!

Ronan will be in Old Town Alexandria this Sunday March 24th at 6pm, for a free Introductory Irish Class at the ‘Irish Walk’ (prior registration required). The next course of Irish classes in DC begin April 9th and 11th, and there are a limited number of spaces remaining.

New Virtual Classroom Just Launched!

Learn Irish With Me has just launched a new interactive resource, called ‘An Seomra Cíbear/ The Cyber Room’! This web-based classroom will be used to complement learning in the new Ard Rang course, which begins tomorrow at 7pm in Friendship Heights, DC.

As an educational forum, An Seomra Cíbear is designed to provide students with more opportunities to practice their Irish, access extra resources, and connect with fellow learners. After registering online, students will be able to post comments and communicate with their course múinteoir and fellow students on each week’s comhrá (conversation) topics.

For students not yet at the Ard Rang level, do not fear: Introductory and Intermediate courses begin in less than two weeks! Spaces are limited, so make sure to sign up soon!

This is a 6-week course for those who have never learned Irish. It is an enjoyable yet challenging introduction to conversational Irish: by the end of this course, students will be able to introduce themselves and talk about their family life, where they live, occupation, likes/dislikes, hobbies, numbers, tell the time, days of the week and more!

Fáilte mhór chuig ár múinteoir nua, Elaine Ní Chiarba! Elaine will be teaching the Introductory and Intermediate classes that begin later this month, and we are delighted to have her join the LIWM team. You can read Elaine’s bio and details of the upcoming classes below.

Tá a lán taithí aici i réimse an oideachais agus d’oibrigh sí mar mhúinteoir i dtíortha éagsula mar shampla An Fhrainc, An Chóiré Theas, An Spáinn, Maracó agus Sasana. Tá Elaine ag tnúth go mór le aithne a chur ar a cuid mac léinn nua agus le Gaeilge a mhúineadh i Washington DC.

Elaine Kirby is originally from County Kilkenny, Ireland. She attended Trinity College Dublin and completed an M.Phil. in Applied Linguistics in 2011. She has experience teaching in many different countries: France, South Korea, Spain, Morocco and England. She is really looking forward to getting to know her new students and to teaching Irish in Washington DC.
